Informacje o zabiegu
Tympanostomy is a procedure involving the insertion of drains into the tympanic cavity. Drainage is carried out through the tympanic membrane to evacuate pathological fluid in the middle ear. The most common indication is recurrent inflammation of the middle ear or long-term inflammation, during which pathological discharge accumulates in the tympanic cavity. Hearing problems can be caused by adenoid hypertrophy, which is caused by the auditory trumpet or auditory trumpet obstruction caused by the swelling of these structures that accompanies inflammation. The procedure involves inserting a thin tube made of plastic material (e.g. silicone). The diameter of drain is very small, about 0.5 – 1.2 mm. The drains are placed in tympanic membrane, enabling evacuations of pathological contents in the process. After treatment, the patients immediately hear better what gives them considerable relief. The general condition of patients is also improved. After this procedure, the daily bathing is not contraindicated, but special care should be taken. Long-term baths on the pool, head immersion in water and diving are contraindicated. This may cause damage to the middle ear.
